My Tree Portraits begin with a focused encounter: one tree, observed closely and rendered as an individual. These are not landscapes, but character studies. I treat each tree as a figure — a presence — and as a stand-in for the human self, both stable and shifting. Through mirroring, inversion, and abstraction, different aspects of the tree are revealed, and contradictions surface. Can one individual hold more than one identity?
