Boys journey into the horizon 12x16, acrylic on canvas, 2016. Soon after my younger son left home for college, I found myself painting this image from a family trip of years ago (the younger was just 10, the older nearing 13). Only as I was completing it did I grasp its meaning, the theme my unconscious was grappling with: My two children no-longer-children, journeying into their futures, faces looking to the unknown shores where one day they will make landfall.
